PIRATES ARE SOFTBALL CHAMPS Softball season proved to be a success this year when the Pirates wound up the playoffs by being the 1946 Vigo County Softball Champions. After having won the championship, a celebration in honor of the softball team was sponsored by the Student Council in the gymnasium Oct. 10. Mr. Pound, superintendent of schools, awarded the Victory trophy which was received by co-captains, Bob Lawson and Fred Zimmerman, who had been appointed by Mr. Decker. The Reverend Ernest L. Bailey gave and address on sportsmanship and a Benediction. Mr. Gail Hoskins, trustee, was also present and commended the softball team. President of the Student Council, Donna Jo Burk, introduced the speakers and announced the name of the most valuable player, Fred Zimmerman. Mrs. Pollock led the band in a few numbers and the school song which seemed to arouse the school spirit.
