Title	William H. Perry, Sr. Elementary School of Louisville, Ky
Description	Dr. Perry was well-known and respected and Western Elementary School was posthumously renamed in his honor, in 1952. In 1959, Perry School enrollment demanded larger facilities, and the school was moved to this new building, across the street from the original school, which was razed and converted to a play ground. Controversy arose in 1980 when Roosevelt Elementary school was merged with this historically African American school, and the Perry name was threatened with removal. In August 1980, through the efforts of the single African American representative to the Jefferson County Board of Education, Mr. Lyman T. Johnson, a compromise was reached by which the Perry name was salvaged. Today (2009) it is known as the Roosevelt-Perry Elementary School.
