The following LaPorte County legend, "Buried Treasure" is a very common story in that area and is still believed by many older folks. The mass media has carried several stories concerning finds of old coins which rekindle interest in the legend. "Buried Treasure contains elements of two motifs; N511.1, 'Treasure buried by men,' and K335.1, 'Robber frightened from goods." The LaPorte file contains a wide variety of folk material. There are several legends of miraculous cures, many place name legends, several tall tales, and several memorates. |
