Description |
Cindy Thomas's transcribed account of the legend of Stiffy Green as collected by herself. According to this variant, a man requested that his Great Dane be stuffed and placed his mausoleum when it died. The dog can supposedly be found lying at the end of his master's coffin despite being stuffed in a sitting position. The mausoleum is located in Highland Lawn Cemetery in Vigo County, Indiana. |

Contextual Information |
In most variants of this legend, the dog is a bulldog rather than a Great Dane. In fact, the actual statue of Stiffy Green is a bulldog. See Motif-Index of Folk Literature B301.1.3 Faithful animal doesn't allow anybody to come near to master's corpse. |
