Description |
Trudy Meneely's transcribed account of the legend of Stiffy Green as collected by Dallas Meneely. According to this variant, Stiffy Green was a dog who died of heartbreak shortly after his master's death. The man's family had the dog stuffed and placed his head on top of his master's tombstone. The grave is located in Highland Lawn Cemetery in Vigo County, Indiana. |

In most variants of the legend, the entire dog is stuffed and placed in the master's mausoleum, not just the head. See Motif-Index of Folk Literature B301.1.3 Faithful animal doesn't allow anybody to come near to master's corpse. |
