Abstract |
Letter to Marguerite Debs Cooper, 09/02/1948. Writes that he is glad that Cooper and Gertrude Debs enjoyed the book that he sent. Remarks that he and his wife had dinner last night with the Earl Warren and his wife and they told him that they enjoyed the book, too. Mentions that Thomas Dewey telephoned Earl Warren and said that he also liked the book. Says that he received the copy of THE WRITINGS AND SPEECHES OF EUGENE V. DEBS that Cooper sent. Informs Cooper that he was speaking to Norman Thomas about the copyright situation and the great obstacle to getting it established in Cooper's name is that Eugene V. Debs' writings and speeches are currently copyrighted by a great many organizations, including the Socialist Party, the APPEAL TO REASON, the NEW YORK CALL, the INTERNATIONAL SOCIALIST REVIEW, the NEW YORK COMRADE, among others. Tells Cooper that he plans on writing to each organization who holds a copyright to return that copyright to the guardians of Eugene V. Debs' estate. |
