Abstract	Copy of letter to Warren Harding, 08/04/1921. Says that he is writing Harding to challenge the remarks made by Edward S. Betteheim, Jr. of the Veterans of Foreign Wars regarding John G. Emery's position on Eugene V. Debs's case. Tells Harding that the 48 state department heads of the American Legion consulted in the matter regarding the Legion's position in Eugene V. Debs's case are not a representative cross section of the 4.5 million soldiers who served in the war. Writes that Bettelheim knew this when he stated that a majority of ex-servicemen are against Eugene V. Debs's release but made the statement just to deceive Harding and the American people. Assures Harding that a majority of veterans would have only good will towards him if he pardoned Eugene V. Debs and the rest of the political prisoners.
