(caption) Joe Marcinko Is Suffocated In No. One Mine: Dies Before Rescue Are Able To Get Him Out Joe Marcinko, 45 years old, died from suffocation at Binkley Mine about 6:30 yesterday evening (as) result of an explosion that occurred about an hour earlier. The explosion was due to a windy shot. Marcinko had been working extra in the mine as shot firer. “Dusty Miller,” the other shooter, and another mine employee were in the mine at the time of the blast. A small rescue party composed of the two men in the mine and M. J. Toner, mine manager, and Tom Shull, assistant superintendent, found Marcinko but he died before they could get him out of the mine. There were no marked found on the man’s body. A few brattices in the mine were torn out by the explosion but the damage was estimated as small.
The body of Marcinko was brought to the Brown funeral home in Clinton and will be taken to the home (in) Blanford this afternoon. Surviving are the widow and eight children(:) Andrew, of Blanford; Mary, of Detroit; Helen, Julia, Josephine, Johnny and Steve, at home. Three brothers, Joh(n) and Steve of Universal, Paul of New York City, and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Marcinko of Universal also survive. The funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the home in Blanford with continued services at 2 o’clock at Sacred Hea(rt) church in Clinton. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Marcinko was a member of the Yed Notta lodge. Both Binkley 1 and 3, which are twin mines, were idle today because of the accident.
