Abstract	Letter to Eugene V. Debs, 1/17/16. Writes that when he was in Effingham, Illinois he thought of Eugene V. Debs. Says that he is both glad and sorry to hear that Eugene V. Debs will not be the Socialist Party's Presidential candidate in the 1916 election. Tells Eugene V. Debs that he is glad that he is not running for President because the grueling schedules "unmistakably" push Eugene V. Debs "graveward." Assures Eugene V. Debs that he wants him to live to see the foundations of capitalism crumble. Tells Eugene V. Debs that he is sorry that he is not running for President because he is greatly needed as the "chief banner-bearer" of the Socialist Party. Mentions that he hopes that James Maurer will get the nomination. Also mentions that he is interested in knowing about George Goebel's election to the National Executive Committee. Says that he trusts that Thompson looks good as a possible choice for secretary of the Socialist Party.
