Abstract	Letter to Theodore Debs on Socialist Party National Office letterhead, 9/16/27. Informs Theodore Debs that he is mailing him the first copy of WALLS AND BARS to come off the press. Writes that the book is made of the very best materials and that it has been trimmed in 22 karat gold. Assures Theodore Debs that he agrees with him that Chicago, Illinois is too expensive a city to house the Socialist Party headquarters. Says that the AMERICAN APPEAL is not doing well because of the fact that the paper reflects the opinion solely of its editor who is responsible for writing most of the articles that appear in it.

Notes	American Appeal was an official publication of the Socialist Party of America, and was produced weekly in New York City from 1926 until 1927, when it merged into The New Leader. The New Leader continued on in print until 2007, when it became an exclusively online publication.
