Notes	The New Masses, published from 1926-1948, was a prominent American Marxist publication edited by Michael Gold, and briefly by Whittaker Chambers. It began as the independent organ in response to the Workers Party of America take over of The Liberator. It was published monthly from 1926 through 1933, and weekly thereafter. Other participants in the publication included Max Eastman, John Dos Passos, Upton Sinclair and Ezra Pound.
