Abstract	Letter to Charles Staff, 01/01/1946. Writes that he has done more towards Eugene V. Debs's and Thedore Debs's welfare "than many of their closest acquaintances." Says that Eugene V. Debs should never have been incarcerated but that he was betrayed by a "gang of unscrupulous shysters lawyers possessing no more senses than jack asses" including Seymour Stedman. Writes that he cannot believe that Seymour Stedman let Eugene V. Debs give the closing statement at his trial. Mentions that he remembers when in the winter of 1920 Woodrow Wilson's wife begged her husband to grant clemency to Eugene V. Debs. Tells Staff that Eugene V. Debs's trip to Washington was due to the efforts of Tom Watson. Mentions that a letter he wrote to a friend of his was recently confiscated by the FBI.
