socialist
newspaper
that was
founded
in
Kansas
City
,
Missouri
in
1895
by
Julius
Augustus
Wayland
.
While
not
officially
connected
with the
Socialist
Party
of the
United
States
of
America
,
it
spread
socialist
ideas
and was
very
popular
among
the
workers
.
Eugene
V
.
Debs
was a
regular
contributor
to this
publication
. The
Appeal
to
Reason
ceased
publication
in
November
1922
, and was
replaced
by its
new
owners
,
Emanuel
and
Marcet
Haldeman-Julius
, with the
Haldeman-Julius
Weekly
.
