Abstract	Letter to Theodore Debs, 8/5/1943. Says that he has been negligent in writing Theodore Debs since visiting him last April. Assures Theodore Debs that he has thought of him time and time again. Remarks that he appreciated the way Theodore Debs welcomed him into his home. Mentions that he was at Camp Breckinridge until 2 months ago. Says that military life is "monotonous." Writes that by the time he left the camp he was vice-chair of the Service News Council. Remarks that 2 months ago he was transferred to a munitions outpost in Tennessee. Tells Theodore Debs that most of the personnel there are from the South. Writes that since he has been in the South he has seen some of the "depressing things" that he had read about occurring there. Says that he has been saddened by domestic event like the riots in Beaumont, Texas; San Francisco, California; and Detroit, Michigan and the attitude of Franklin Roosevelt towards Charles de Gaulle.
