Abstract	Copy of letter to Warren Harding on Private Soldiers and Sailors Legion of the United States of America letterhead, 07/30/1921. Says that John G. Emery's letter to Harding regarding Eugene V. Debs's case should be rebuked. Assures Harding that John G. Emery does not represent the great mass of veterans when it comes to the issue of amnesty. Remarks that no one really believes that Eugene V. Debs would ever harm another human being. Writes that he has known Eugene V. Debs for 27 years when they were both locomotive firemen together. Tells Harding that while he is no socialist that he does not approve of the way that John G. Emery is trying to slander and persecute Eugene V. Debs. Mentions that John G. Emery's statement that the pardoning of Eugene V. Debs would be "interpreted as a license to disregard all law and order" is a statement of "such deplorable and incendiary character that it may very easily become the incitation to even more widespread and dangerous violence." Informs Harding that the American Legion's charter should be repealed.
