Abstract	Letter to Theodore Debs on Hotel Lankershim, Los Angeles, California letterhead, 10/13/1905. Says that he could sue Mr. Barnes for libeling him. Writes that some people say that he was exploited on the Chautauqua circuit. Remarks that the debate he had with Eugene V. Debs was prevented from coming off. Asks that Eugene V. Debs see to it that Barnes makes amends. Mentions that he read Eugene V. Debs's article in the APPEAL TO REASON pointing out "what a golden opportunity is wasted at the Chautauqua." Writes that socialist leaders are "afraid" to meet him.

Notes	Appeal to Reason was a weekly socialist newspaper that was founded in Kansas City, Missouri in 1895 by Julius Augustus Wayland. While not officially connected with the Socialist Party of the United States of America, it spread socialist ideas and was very popular among the workers. Eugene V. Debs was a regular contributor to this publication. The Appeal to Reason ceased publication in November 1922, and was replaced by its new owners, Emanuel and Marcet Haldeman-Julius, with the Haldeman-Julius Weekly.
