Civil War Locations in Switzerland County, Indiana
Here is a plaque at the Switzerland County courthouse in Vevay,Indiana. The courthouse dungeon served as a stop for runaway slaves who were traveling along the Underground Railroad.
"The Dungeon" plaque reads:
“A stop on the underground railroad bringing slaves to freedom 1862-1864 commemorated 1976 Vevay, Indiana” .
Switzerland County Courthouse
The courthouse was built in 1864 during the thunder of the Civil War.
